Lacson’s murder case hampers approval of Paglaum Fund
BORACAY ISLAND, Aklan- The murder charges filed against Senator Ping Lacson have delayed the Senate approval of the P8-billion Paglaum Fund, according to Aklan Rep. Florencio Miraflores.
The lower house has approved the ‘Paglaum Fund’ for the rehabilitation of Panay Island after it was damaged by typhoon Frank last year.
Miraflores said the Senate version of the bill remained pending at the Office of Sen. Lacson, he, being the chairman of the Ways and Means Committee.
“If not for Senator Lacson’s personal problem, the Paglaum fund may have already been approved. I hope the Senator would help the Panay residents by endorsing the senate bill to the plenary for approval,” said Miraflores.
Lacson faces murder charges in connection with the controversial Dacer-Corbito double murder case.
Miraflores on Sunday night met with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Presidential Assistant for Western Visayas Raul Banias, Iloilo Rep. Arthur Defensor and Department of Budget Management Secretary Rolando Andaya in Boracay for an early release of the part of the Paglaum fund.
“President Arroyo has approved the release of the P480 million as part of the proposed P8-billion fund. The budget will be used for the dredging of the rivers in Western Visayas, including the Aklan river to prevent flooding comes the rainy season in June,” Miraflores said.
