OPEN LETTER FOR GOVERNOR CARLITO MARQUEZ
Dear Governor Marquez,
I did not vote for you because I am now a resident of Iloilo City.
But I am an Aklanon by heart and I do care about our beloved province, Aklan.
I am not sure whether you will read this open letter to you. But I hope that you will.
As our newly-elected governor of Aklan, I know you are very much concern on the wellfare of our province.
There are things which I think your administration should give priority
1. Please fulfill whatever promises you gave to our people. That could be the main reason why they voted you.
2. Give priority for the improvement of our agriculture since our province is an agricultural province. Improve our irrigation system. Our farmers surely need money to buy seeds, fertilizers, and other agricultural needs.
3. Give priority to peace and order in our province. Although our province is relatively peaceful, better vigilance is still a must.
4. Please provide financial support to our scientists, artists, and writers. These are the people in Aklan who have not been given enough attention. Their neglect is one reason why our literature has not been as developed as that of the Hiligaynoon and Cebuano literature. Our public libraries do not have sufficient books on Aklanon history, culture and literature. Our painters have not been included in our national scenes. Our technologists have not been able to create significant new technologies.
5. Please provide more financial support to our public hospitals and clinics so that our poor people will have better health services. Healthy people makes a progressive province.
6. Please help preserve our rivers, forests–our environment.
7. Please help maintain the cleanliness of the Aklan River bank especially near the bridge that connects Kalibo and Numancia.
8. Please check from time to time whether our drugstores in Kalibo really provide discounts to our senior citizens when they buy their medicines.
9. The streets in Kalibo are usually heavy with tricycles causing a lot of air pollution. I hope that your administration will closely monitor on this to safeguard the health of our people.
10. Please give attention to our cultural minorities, the Atis, particularly the younger ones. If given scholarships, many of our ours,natives will have better lives.
11. Make the Aklan province official website as recent as possible.
