BORACAY ISLAND, Aklan- The Boracay Special Tourism Protection Office (BSTPO) has called on stakeholders to help ensure children’s protection here, particularly from trafficking and sexual exploitation.
Chief Insp. Eugene Rebadomia, acting Boracay police chief, said that law enforcers here need the help of government agencies and all other stakeholders to protect children from falling victims of trafficking and sexual exploitation.
Rebadomia said police could hardly rescue children in distress due to lack of facility where they could place them.
“We need a rescue center for children who are victims in this resort island,” she said.
Earlier, the End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and the Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes (ECPAT), in a study, confirmed the presence of children engaged in prostitution in this resort island. Some of them are Boracay residents.
“Worse, some bars and resorts in Boracay are tolerating the apparent child prostitution in their respective establishments for money,” Dolores Alforte, executive director of ECPAT said.
The study was presented to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, showing some of the children who admitted to ECPAT that they were engaged in prostitution in this resort island.
