KALIBO, Aklan – A hill in Barangay Taruytoy, Manika Libacao, Aklan was officially named after Architect Jose Mañosa for his concern on the hinterland municipality’s environment.
Libacao Mayor Charito Navarosa said the hill was named “Monte de Mañosa.”
“We conferred the name of the hill to Mañosa because he was the one who created the Libacao master development plan which is not only aimed to alleviate poverty but also to protect and conserve the environment of our town,” Navarosa said.
The naming of the hill was approved through a local legislation of the council.
The hill is located in the Central Panay Mountain Ranges (CPMR). According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the CPMR is home to several endangered species such as the cloud rat and the spotted deer.
Mañosa is an adopted son of Libacao. He was declared last year as a national artist by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo because of his advocacy on environment through architecture.
