KALIBO, Aklan- A female Computer Science student of Systems Technology Institute (STI-Kalibo) is the lone delegate of the country in the forthcoming Y Peer Conference of the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) in Europe.
Imee Albano of the UNFPA-Manila said, the STI-Kalibo has endorsed Ma. Doreen Era Murata, 20, of Aklan to attend the international conference for Asia-Pacific on Advanced Training of Trainers and Focal Points Conference to start July 1.
“Murata has been chosen as the official delegate to represent the country after screening other potential Filipino youth because she is able to accomplish all the needed requirements set by the UNFPA,” said Albano.
Murata will be joining the other delegates to the said conference such as Nicha Jitjaeng of Thailand; Prileen Martin representing the Pacific Island Countries and Muhamad Shahzad of Pakistan.
Murata currently chairs the Adolescent Reproductive Health Council in the province.
She is also an active youth facilitator, trainer and documentalist in the province and an active youth officer of the Cayangwan-Aglucay Reproductive Health Organization (CARHO) in Makato, Aklan.
Murata said that the conference is supposed to be held in Amman, Jordan this May, but was then transferred to Europe.
After the Europe conference, Murata is expected to undertake series of activities of counseling and youth initiatives and advocacies in the country on reproductive health issues.
According to the UNFPA, about 95 percent of new HIV-AIDS infections in Asia affected young people.
