BORACAY ISLAND, Aklan – The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) here ordered the closure of a souvenir shop, a restaurant and a big resort for failure to comply with their tax obligations.
BIR Deputy for Operation Chief Nelson Aspe, identified the Boracay establishments with closure orders as Salic Collection Pearls, Big Mouth both located at D Mall and Alice in Wonderland Resort.
Internal Revenue Commissioner Sixto Esquivias signed the closure orders against the said establishments.
Aspe said that they were given notifications and warnings prior the closure. They were also subjected to months of surveillance to determine if their businesses are operating.
Aspe said that the erring establishments should have already rectified their errors upon receipt of warnings from the BIR. “So now we are doing action,” he said.
Salic Ibrahim, owner of the Salic Collection Pearl, said that he welcomed the BIR’s move and is currently in coordination with the agency for the resumption of the business.
The Big Mouth, on the other hand, was ordered closed after the BIR noted that the restaurant is using the registration of Heavenly Urban Chef Bayle Bar and Restaurant which is based in Manila.
Esquivias said that the operation was illegal since the Big Mouth should register properly with the BIR and use its own receipt.
The Alice on Wonderland Resort was closed for nonpayment of taxes.
