KALIBO, Aklan – The Aklan Historical Society and the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) urged business establishments and residential houses to display the Philippine flag this month of March.
Kalibo Councilor Soviet Dela Cruz, chairman of the SB Committee on Arts and Culture, said March is considered as the “Local Martyrdom and Heroism Month” of this capital town.
He explained that Kalibo commemorates the death of the 19 martyrs, local heroes who were assassinated during the Spanish occupation, every third week of March.
“We have several activities lined up for the commemoration this March and one way of showing our patriotism and love for our country and local heroes is displaying the Philippine flag as we also do every June 12, our Independence Day,” Dela Cruz said during the weekly Kapehan sa Aklan forum here.
During the commemoration, replicas of different Philippine flags used by revolutionary heroes during the Spanish time will be displayed.
