BORACAY Island, Malay, Aklan- The province of Aklan really needs more investors on food and trading for Boracay Island, according to the Department of Trade and Industry.
Likewise, the Department of Tourism (DOT) is also encouraging the putting up of new hotels in Kalibo.
Ma. Stela Caldera of DTI-Aklan said that in 2009 they received an increasing number of entrepreneurs engaging on trade and food business.
But this is apparently still not enough to accommodate the growing number of tourists coming to this resort island.
According to the report of the DOT, at least 649,559 foreign and local tourists have visited this resort island in 2009 with a projection two years from now of receiving one million tourists if the needed facilities are established.
DOT officials said that aside from the continuous expansion of the Kalibo International Airport (KIA) a new port area is also expected to rise few meters away from the KIA.
The idea of having a new port set by the Philippines Port Authority (PPA) is to fast ferry the tourists from the KIA to Boracay and vice versa.
The DOT wanted that a hotel would also be put up near the airport to accommodate the growing number of passengers especially when flights were delayed due to bad weather condition.
The province of Aklan has recently attained the category of first class province with over P600 million of income since November 2009.
