BORACAY ISLAND, Aklan- Medical personnel should be concerned of their safety especially on treating patients who have been infected with the influenza A (H1N1) virus.
Dr. Myrtle Pelayo, provincial representative of the Department of Health, said it is already imperative that all medical personnel whether in public or private practice should prepare after the World Health Organization raised the pandemic alert level for the A/H1N1 virus.
“In cases such as in Boracay Island being a tourist destination, all public and private clinics should immediately treat the victim. We do not want to bring them anymore to nearby Kalibo or Iloilo hospitals for treatment because they might spread the virus along the way,” said Pelayo.
The DOH on Saturday conducted a briefing on the A(H1N1) flu among the stakeholders in this resort island.
“Everyone now should cooperate to prevent the flu from spreading,” she said.
Pelayo said there have been no cases yet of swine flu recorded in this resort island and all the medical personnel are already aware on what to do in case of worst possible scenario.
