KALIBO, Aklan – Police said “simple” robbery is behind the brutal killing of a 61-year-old British national in Brgy. Tinigaw on Sunday.
Senior Insp. Arnolito Laguerta, Kalibo police chief, said victim Paul Anthony Roberts succumbed to several slash wounds on the throat. The victim was also hit on the head with a large object.
Roberts’ wife, Amy, on the other hand, was gagged and hogtied but managed to shout for help after the unidentified suspects fled.
It was their son Daniel Paul and a househelp who asked for help from Tinigaw Brgy. Capt. Wilna Jizmundo thru a text message hours after the incident.
Laguerta said robbery is the main motive of the crime for now since they discovered that the couple’s jewelry and cash worth nearly P100,000 went missing.
He added that there were also no signs of forced entry.
But Laguerta said they are still investigating other possible angles of the crime, including a traffic altercation the victim had several months ago.
He said they are also trying to establish a link between the assassination attempt on Roberts with the present case.
Neighbors of the victim had claimed that they saw some motorcycle riding men passing by and stopping near the house days before the incident. Police are still probing and verifying the reports.
