KALIBO, Aklan – Cong. Florencio Miraflores urged the Samahan ng Kabataan (SK) to help in the fight against illegal drugs especially in schools.
Speaking to around 69 SK members of Libacao, Aklan during its anti-drug abuse seminar in Agzam Resort, Miraflores said the SK should take an active stance against illegal drugs.
He said this coming school year, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) will implement random drug testing in schools.
“The CHED may require all students to take drug tests as part of the physical examination before entering college but they could not do it because of issues involving privacy. I appeal then to the SK to discourage their fellow youth from using illegal drugs,†the solon added.
Police Ret. Major Paquito Saratiosa of the Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council said that for several years, the SK has failed to do its part in the fight against illegal drugs.
“The SK is known to launch a series of sports-related activities for the youth to be discouraged from engaging in illegal drugs. The SK, however, failed to relay this message among the participating youth,†he explained.
Saratiosa said the SK could integrate messages asking the youth not to engage in illegal drug activities in sports-related activities.
The seminar was conducted in coordination with the Aklan provincial government, municipality of Libacao and the Youth Development, a non-government organization of the youth
