KALIBO, Aklan – Former police officer Modesto Amancio was among the lucky recipients of a scholarship certificate from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), one of the highlights of the 111th Independence Day celebration here.
Amancio, 39, is just one of the 150 TESDA scholars who symbolically received the scholarship which is part of the Comprehensive Livelihood Employment and Emergency Program (CLEEP) of the government.
Amancio is a former police officer based in Balete, Aklan but applied for disability retirement after a work-related incident in 2007.
“After two years, I decided to study again this time for Commercial Cooking in Garde Verde School of Culinary Arts. Lucky for me, I learned about the TESDA scholarship which prompted me to apply,” Amancio said.
According to TESDA Provincial Director Edwin Villanueva, Amancio is one of the thousands of TESDA scholars in the province.
“We are targeting to provide at least 3,000 scholars this year in courses of household chores, food beverages, welding, plumbing and other related courses. Among our beneficiaries are students, displaced overseas Filipino workers and (displaced local workers),” said Villanueva.
