DOST partners with ASU to provide livelihood opportunities to poor Akeanons
KALIBO, Aklan – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has partnered with the Aklan State University (ASU) in providing livelihood opportunities to poor residents here through the Comprehensive Livelihood Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP).
Jairus Lachica, chief of the DOST-Kalibo, said five towns have been identified to benefit from the program namely Ibajay, Nabas, Numancia, Balete and Altavas.
The DOST-ASU partnership is themed as “Establishment of Technology-based Incubation Center” which aimed to provide employment and at the same time ensure food security in the province.
“Currently, the Nabas town has already identified its possible livelihood project. At least 28 residents will use the center for fish processing food business,” he said.
The DOST will provide P50,000 worth of equipment to each identified town while the ASU will extend technical support such as training, research and marketing.
The local government unit will provide venue for the center where the equipment will be housed.
Other four towns are yet to identify their possible livelihood projects.
